Office of Student Life

Great things happen in and outside the classroom at SPU. Student Life staff and programming help students discover their gifts and calling, explore paths to reconciliation and life together, take steps toward lifelong health and wellness, and develop effective and professional relationships. Please join us in supporting the transformative student experience at Seattle Pacific.

Giving Priorities

Vocational Discernment:  The Vocational Discernment program provides a unique opportunity for students to reflect and develop practices that help them understand and articulate their vocational calling. Experiential learning through internships, job shadowing, informational interviews, and other practices allows students to "test the waters." Your gift helps facilitate retreats, enhance programs, and bring speakers to campus who provide insight into discerning giftedness and direction, applying for a job or graduate school, business etiquette, and other prospects.

Diversity Efforts:  In the past 10 years, the number of ethnic minority students has tripled. SPU is deeply invested in addressing issues related to diversity and reconciliation by creating rich learning opportunities for all students as they explore their own racial, ethnic, and cultural identity; engage with diverse peers; and learn to become leaders. For example, Early Connections plays an important part as an early acclimation-to-college program, providing ongoing support in college and assisting students throughout graduation.

Health and Wellness: SPU has a comprehensive Wellness program to help students address the many health, wellness, and learning challenges in the college setting. Some students arrive at SPU with certain issues needing attention. Others may face an unexpected emergency or immediate need while attending. SPU provides this assistance through quality counseling and healthcare services, programs, and equipment. For example, SPU continually makes efforts to increase education regarding healthy decisions related to sleep, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, and anxiety.

Student Leadership:  At least one-third of SPU students are in formal leadership roles on campus (a hallmark of the SPU student experience) - in student government, residence halls, ministries, athletics, fine arts, clubs, etc. Your gift helps enhance this invaluable programming. For example, through speaking engagements and mentoring, local business and nonprofit leaders provide students with insights on real-world leadership and current issues and challenges.

Vice President/Deans' Fund for Excellence:  Your gift is invested to further educate staff and develop programs in response to critical issues. Special projects, research, and pilot programs are essential to address emerging challenges and needs related to health issues, compliance requirements, and unusual student circumstances.
